CB Banquet Captain

Job Responsibilities:

A Banquet Captain is responsible for ensuring Banquet functions run according to certain specifications.  That superior guest service and satisfaction is achieved by the Banquet Team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:  

  • Ensure Banquet facilities are set up properly and food and beverage service meet guests’ needs.
  • Ensure Banquet Event Order (BEO) meets guest specifications (e.g., linens, silver, china, glass, floor plan, special instructions, menu, etc. are available and ready to use).
  • Assist with managing other Food & Beverage departments when there are no events scheduled.
  • Conduct pre-shift meeting with Banquet Team to ensure all employees are in proper uniform and thoroughly knowledgeable of the details contained in BEO.
  • Communicate regularly with the Banquet Manger, notifying him/her of information that directly relates to, or affects, the Banquet Department.
  • Prepare Banquet checks and maintain written records on daily re-cap form.
  • Maintain constant contact with kitchen to ensure smooth transition of food delivery.
  • Ensure cleanliness of Banquet service areas, meeting room and public spaces.
  • Maintain familiarity with the location of all function rooms and related areas and the various types of workable setups.
  • Maintain an effective system of inventory control; ensure storage areas are well organized and adequate supplies are on hand.
  • Routinely inspect Banquet facilities and notifies the appropriate person (s) of any maintenance, repair and/or safety needs; follows up to ensure matters have been appropriately handled.
  • Motivates Banquet Team with a positive, encouraging attitude.
  • Ensure sanitation guidelines, the HACCP System, and proper food rotation procedures are adhered to.
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all nits of measure, using whole numbers, percentages, common fractions and decimals.
  • Work under pressure; maintain regular and punctual attendance including working odd and unusual hours, weekends and holidays.
  • At all times maintain a courteous, positive and professional working relationship with all LDC personnel and the general public (e.g., coworkers, clients and vendors).
  • Build relationships and loyalty with guests through sincere and meaningful interactions (e.g., learn guests’ names and preferences; connect with them individually and professionally; smile; make eye contact and verbally greet guests).
  • Be a team player (e.g., work toward team goals and foster a collaborative and positive work environment; put the team first; assist coworkers; treat all coworkers with kindness, courtesy and respect; never engage in negativity; maintain openness to coaching, learning and improving; receptive to change and willingness to embrace challenges with team-spirit).
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of services, room locations, amenities, surroundings (i.e., gift shop, restaurants, theater, etc.), providing accurate directions, and information for guest inquiries about promotions and special events.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned
  • Assist with time and attendance in Kronos and recommends to the Assistant Operations Manager or Operations Manager the level of progressive discipline for points accrued to the employee.
  • Send people home when business allows and must be reactive to any situations that happens during their shifts. 

Education & Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or GED with one to three years of relevant work experience required.
  •  One year experience in banquet, restaurant or food service capacity highly desirable. 

Licensing & Certification: 

  • None.

Computer Equipment, Software, Machinery: 

  • Proficient in basic computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Proficient with Kronos

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • The job requires hearing, standing, walking, talking, repetitive use of hands, and turning/twisting 51-100% of the time.
  • The job requires pushing/pulling, carrying, lifting, sliding/transferrin 1-50 lbs. 51-100% of the time.  

Essential Mental Demands: 

  • Requires, reading, organizing, and planning 51-100% of the time.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • The job requires training, scheduling, apportioning work among employees, directing and appraising productivity.
  • The job includes the recommendation to hire, discipline and terminate employees.

Work Environment (inside/outside): 

  • The job is performed indoors in a restaurant environment.

Other Requirements: 

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Obtain, within thirty days from day of employment, alcohol service certification, and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Obtain, with in ninety days from day of employment, Serv-Safe Certification.
